International Day of Climate Action

Climate Action

They showed that 350 parts per million CO2 in the atmosphere is the safe limit for humanity.1

The bad news is we’re already past that number - we’re at 390 parts per million, which is why the Arctic is melting, why drought is spreading across the planet, why humanity is facing perhaps its greatest challenge ever.

The good news: that number gives us a target to aim for.

On 24th Oct, be heard, seen and felt in fun and meaningful activities that will spread this urgent message!

Arial Photograph Padang 8 - 10am

At 8am, hundreds of us will gather at the Padang to use our bodies to form the number '350' - the safe limit for CO2 and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. A boom lift will raise our photographer 12m into the air to capture this mass formation.

Wacky Walk Padang to SMU 10 - 11am

From the Padang , we will then 'wacky walk' our way to SMU…that's right, 'Wacky Walk'! Wear a costume, paint your face, walk sideways or any other outrageous gait, gallop or hop that you and your team can come up with. We challenge you to think out of the box and be as fun and creative as possible!

Prizes Food and More Fun SMU 11am -3pm

Win prizes for the Best Costume, the Wackiest Walk and Best Showmanship!

All registrants will also receive a Certificate of Participation.

Enjoy a delicious spread of vegan vegetarian cuisine from Loving Hut

Vegan Maker, the Movie

Finally after hearing so much about the vegan maker recently I saw the first few minutes of the movie and immediately recognize that this is going to be a winner.

It is a movie that is designed to test your humanity... After watching this 90 minutes feature documentary and if you are still "unmoved", if you did not even shead a drop of tears, regardless of age, language, religion or sex, then you can consider that you have failed the test of humanity, and the sad corollary will be that your NQ as a human being is way below 10%, possibly 3 % even (that is kind of like rock bottom !!)

Yes, we are talking about the famous vegan maker movie called Earthlings.

Please visit their web site and purchase a copy of the movie. support the director with your money because he is going to come up with a sequel to that called UNITY.

Some new words we have learned. That mono specieism is a bad word. Trust humans to coin a phrase for almost every conceivable human experience !! And that multi specieism contributes to harmonious co-existence, biodiversity, preserves lives and provides for the continued happiness and existence of all beings under the sun.

If you are lost what it all means with those big words, just remember to be a vegan, that is what the message is all about.

United Kingdom without meat

Marianne Thieme co-founded the Party for Animals in the Netherlands, a political party with the stated platform that animals are to be treated with respect by humans. She is the leader of the party in the Dutch Parliament.

Ms. Thieme clearly defined what it would mean to the United Kingdom if its citizens adopted a diet with no meat.

Marianne: If everyone in the UK ate no meat for 7 days a week, they would save 91 mega tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

Indeed, this would be the same as eliminating all greenhouse gas emissions from 12.5 million households in the UK.

That is half of the UK households. If all British people ate a meat-free diet for 6 days a week, this would create greater carbon savings than removing all the cars off the UK roads, 29 million cars.

If everyone in the UK abstained from eating meat for 5 days a week, they would save 65 megatons CO2 of greenhouse gas emissions.

This would save more than the emissions reductions that would be achieved if the total electricity used in all households in the UK was eliminated.

If all British people ate no meat for 4 days a week, they would save 52 megatons CO2 of greenhouse gas emissions.

This would lead to greater carbon savings than taking 70% of all cars in the UK off the road.

And 3 days no meat would have the same positive effect on reducing greenhouse gas emissions as replacing all household appliances, such as fridges, freezers, dishwashers and washing machines with energy efficient ones, insulating walls, installing double glazing, energy efficient boilers, and thermostats.

One Pound of Beef

One Pound of Beef = 4 hamburgers

One Pound of Beef uses 10,000 to 20,000 liters of water !

One Pound of Beef consumes water equal to 6 months of shower, that is 180 showers !!

One Pound of Beef loses 90% of its original energy.

One Pound of Beef requires 7 pounds of crops to produce, grains which can be used to feed hungry people directly...

Go Vegetarian for ONE WEEK in your life !! How much water and resources you can save to
help the environment !!!

No Thanks, Gandhi went cold turkey ..

The film Gandhi (1982) depicts the story of one of the greatest statesman and vegetarian, Mahatma Gandhi. I remember watching the film very attentively as I was interested to know the life that he lived and what he had done for India.

I have known that he was a humble lawyer by training, and his love for his country motivated him to bring unity amongst the different races in India. This motivation was similar to what had happened to another great statesman of China, Dr. Sun Yat Sen who loved his country deeply.

One particular scene was very graphic. Gandhi was the leader of a whole group of followers who were fighting for their rights in a public display of civic disobedience of a non-violent nature. On the other side rows of policemen armed with batons ready to put them down. One by one, Gandhi and his followers came forward, unarmed and defenseless, and were clobbered down mercilessly by the policeman. In the end, Gandhi won the cause, at the cost of a lot of blood and pain. Non-violence triumphed over violence.

It was a very disturbing scene. I didn't know what to make of it. But that film did teach me at least two words. That Mahatma means a great soul, and Gandhi earned it by his devotion and unconditional labour of love. The other word which I learned was Ahimsa, a state of non-violence.

Now it is Thanksgiving season again in America. If you are still living in the tit-for-tat world, if you are still eating meat, and if you still believe that your life must be sustained at the cost of another turkey's life, then this thanksgiving you could be using violence against a living turkey. You killed the turkey, or caused the turkey to be killed at the hands of others in order that its flesh can be roasted and brought to the dinner table for your "consumption".

If you are still killing a live turkey, I hope you remember the Gandhi movie. The turkey represents the spirit of Gandhi. He wants to fight for his own right to live. He is completely harmless and unarmed. He is defenceless yet defiant as the butcher's knife is brought down against his throat.

If you eat the turkey, you are the policeman in the Gandhi film. You are the perpetrator of violence. You believe in the negative powers. You believe that might is right. You live in self-justified brutality, not caring whether it is at the expense of another living being. As you use your fork to dig into the turkey meat, every single strike is the same strike that the policeman used to clobber Gandhi.

You should know that in the end Gandhi triumphed. So will the turkey. Stop the senseless violence now! Let it never happen again in your life. There are so many alternatives available toay. You can search for veggie turkey recipes in the internet. You can buy tofurky products. You can even order from restaurants like One World. There is no excuse.

Make every day a cold-turkey day for you. Gandhi went cold turkey. So should you !

May your life be blessed by your mercy. Heaven will smile on you, and the turkeys will thank you for their life.
