Well, at least it is a good
hobby, a better past time than the current craze of computer game with all the gore and glory. </br></br>
xiangqi is a quiet game, much like the international chess version.</br></br> It tames your mind, and trains your brain cell, suppossedly something good to keep those brains active as you age gracefully.</br></br>
Here's the free download which I offered on the youtube account.</Br></br></br>
This one is a very famous game called Horse Gambit Delayed.</br></Br></Br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoYZSNVUe2BMe9sjYk8g6vXfTIlU84sg1HBIHnepPwQbBECE2reoYY19So3Iojlot4B7DbWp1HYSqjw2t4jlYm8r9gfWJsLyyWklo9fhi0gwCD4vq5UQychYa5bZ4b_zhbRPZ5lUEIOnAG/s1600/XQHGDly-0-1.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoYZSNVUe2BMe9sjYk8g6vXfTIlU84sg1HBIHnepPwQbBECE2reoYY19So3Iojlot4B7DbWp1HYSqjw2t4jlYm8r9gfWJsLyyWklo9fhi0gwCD4vq5UQychYa5bZ4b_zhbRPZ5lUEIOnAG/s320/XQHGDly-0-1.gif" /></a></div>
</br></Br></Br>
And this is the international version, for people coming to learn Xiangqi with a chess background,
the stylized western board may be more comfortable for them..
</br></Br></Br>

</br></br></br>
Loving Heart Cafe along Sims Avenue, Geylang has been renovated recently just in time for Chinese New Year.
</br></br>
Located at lively Geylang area, it is open during Chinese New Year with offering of special meals to match the festive season. The nearest MRT station is Aljunied Station which is a short 5 or 10 minutes walk away.
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8453415718/" title="Loving Heart 2 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8517/8453415718_f74bbb136f_c.jpg" width="400" alt="Loving Heart 2"></a>
</br></br></br>
Being a pure vegan restaurant, it offers yet another dining option for the many vegans living in Singapore.
</br></br>
Most vegan or vegetarian eateries are closed for the few days of New Year celebration, and sometimes it can be difficult to find any outlet that is open. Loving Heart Cafe will be closed for two days on 11 and 12 Feb.
</br></br>
Loving Heart Cafe should be easy to find. The address is Block 134 #01-219 Geylang East Avenue 1. It is in the same block as the famous Geylang Kwan Yin Zhai vegetarian restaurant which is a well established restaurant with decades of service history.
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8452328405/" title="Loving Heart 3 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8108/8452328405_9be59126b4_c.jpg" width="400" alt="Loving Heart 3"></a>
</br></br></br>
One corner of the restaurant serves as a book corner, offering some reading materials for the public to browse.
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8452339089/" title="Loving Heart 6 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8228/8452339089_50103d17aa_c.jpg" width="400" alt="Loving Heart 6"></a>
</br></br></br>
The book corner is on the left side near to the Supreme Master Television set which most vegan dinners who are customers of Loving Hut will find very familiar.
</br></br>
There are free sample booklets, book marks and aphorisms to be given away.
</br></br>
There are also Supreme Master Ching Hai's spiritual books, magazines and information about the Quan Yin Method of mediation taught by Supreme Master Ching Hai. These books can be borrowed for reading while having a meal at the restaurant.
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8452332413/" title="Loving Heart 4 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8102/8452332413_059ba1492f_c.jpg" width="400" alt="Loving Heart 4"></a>
</br></br></br>
Our favourite rice meal is the Petai Rice Set. We think that it sets the standard for vegan rice meal prepared hot and straight from the kitchen to your dining table. It is certainly fresh and deliciously cooked.
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8452343759/" title="Loving Heart 5 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8111/8452343759_675845a121_c.jpg" width="400" alt="Loving Heart 5"></a>
</br></br></br>
We like to try the laksa dish as well, and there are many other options. We find the laksa very tasty. You can also find vegan G rice at this shop.
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8453445738/" title="Loving Heart 7 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8091/8453445738_b438fbe0fa_c.jpg" width="400" alt="Loving Heart 7"></a>
For the New Year traditional meal, Loving Heart Cafe is offering various choices starting from $48 for two persons to $248 for a table of 10.

</br></br></br>
The specialty in this shop for Lunar New Year is the Save Our Ocean's Shark Soup. This is the famous style of traditional Chinese gourmet soup first veganized by Loving Hut Singapore about 5 years ago.</br></br>
If you have not tried it before, then make a date to have your traditional Chinese New Year meal here at Loving Hut Cafe. You will find the taste authentic and deliciously exquisite.
</br></br></br>

</br></br></br>
The other highlights for the New Year meal is the Fortune Peng Cai. These are now the trendy Chinese meal with delicious assortments of veggies. And you can enjoy these specially prepared vegan meals cooked by the experienced chef at Loving Hut Cafe...</br></br>
Another dish to recommend highly is the Booming Blossom which featured the traditional Abalone Mushrooms.</br></br>

Pong Tahu Mee has its roots when people used to eat seafood and kill crustaceans wherever they can be caught in rivers and oceans. This particular dish is the veganized version of the noodle developed for local taste buds. The traditional ingredients are the yellow noodle, kang kong vegetable, crunchy vegetarian bits and of course the ocean crustacean beings are replaced by the tofu pellets with vegetarian filling. The soup is deliciously tasty with its unique authentic flavour garnished with faux onion shavings.

Eschatology
</b></br></br>
The decapod crustaceans beings of the infraorder Brachyura are often crucified and immobilized through the use of nylon or rope fabric because of the particular fear of the powerful defensive action of the pincers when attacked by the butcheries of "humane" fisher-men. Death for the Brachyura comes almost instantaneously through the guillotine bisection effect of disembodiment usually executed via a ventral assault with a blunt tool such as a sharpened cleaver. The Chinese butcheries are also notorious for using a single chopstick in a direct jabbing action to the myocardial region or thoracic cavity thereabouts. This particularly heinous and beastly assault usually resulted in a painful, slow death.

Eschatology
</b></br></br>
From the moment the crustacean beings were caught from the rivers or oceans, their fate is sealed as they are quickly crucified and kept in steel cages preventing any form of escape. During the long arduous journey of transportation and shipment and the eternal wait for the ransom of their lives which cost a pittance, they endured long periods of claustrophobic confinement and debilitation. Circulatory irregularities such as dizziness, hyperthermia, dehydration and atrial fibrillation are common amongst many other disorders.

Eschatology
</b></br></br>
The gastronomic preparation of the carnivore diet does not respect the sex of the Ocean Crustacean beings. If the species happened to be an impregnated female, then the guillotine insection procedure along the sagittal plane of the crucified Crustacean being lying in the supine position more often then not, dichotomizes the ovarian cavity resulting in the swift effusion of yellow spawn, which is apparently highly prized and whetted by the voyeuristic, carnal and canivoral appetite of the H. sapiens.

Eschatology
</b></br></br>
Needless to say the many injuries sustained by the ocean beings include hernia, massive internal hemorrhage and systemic shock. Upon execution of the guillotine, the beings also suffered from exoskeleton fracture resulting in permanent and irreversible structural collapse of the anatomy. Frequently the cause of death of the ocean beings can be attributed to "evisceration, and massive, multiple systemic failure".

<b color=#5511AC>
Eschatology
</b></br></br>
In the case of the Chinese malevolent butcheric preparation, death can also be caused by "myocardial infarction due to repeated morbid incisions using an extraneous tapered but elongated object of coppice or planktonic origin, resulting in immediate rupture of thoracic cavity leading to multiple failure of internal organs and secondary trauma caused by systemic shock and convulsive epileptic seizures moments before imminent mortality". Such preparation then leads to further post mortem 4th degree burns and inflammation of the cordovan cadaver which together with some spicy sauces added to mask the offensively malodorous stench of organic decay, presents itself in ceramic ware to appease the mighty and insatiable appetite of the carnivore who raises about $12 for the bloody slaughter. Such preparations are routinely carried out in carnivorous restaurant kitchens all over the world by affectless employees with robotic albeit clinically apethetic efficiency.

Eschatology
</b></br></br>
The fate of the Dendrobranchiata crustacean beings are not any more merciful than the Brachyura cousins. They are routinely decapitated and deshelled with impassive invertebrate disdain after their death from asphyxia. Chinese butcheric practice also often dictate the instantaneous removal of fecal excrement through post mortem colectomy and rectal resection using bare hands and fingers. The black thread of feces is deftly removed from the dorsal antero-posterior axis as they are considered too "bitter" to taste in carnivorous gastronomic preparations.

We will spare you the grisly details of the other medieval, carnivoristic practice of alcoholic imbibition of the Dendrobranchiata in vivo, which is the most barbaric, diabolical, right in your face slap of misanthropically dehumanizing procedure ever invented by the Chinese butcheries, but you can imagine for yourself the process involve utmost cruelty and the unspeakable denial of universal suffrage on the rights of the persecuted Crustacean beings.

Eschatology
</b></br></br>
Now you know the real meaning of the word "seafood" and the power behind hypnotic mass media bombardment of daily doses of mind-controlled advertisements. In the eyes of the Carnivora, the whole "sea", and every single living thing that ever moves in it, irrespective of size, is "game" for "food". What kind of voracious, egocentric, eat-until-nothing-is-left appetite, borne of a necro-sacrilegious and agnostic world view, can one find in such a philosophy of paramount imbecilic arrogance that is espoused in that one word alone ! Now you understand why the eschatology of the Ocean Crustacean Beings prognosticate the eschatology of man"un-kind".

Pong Tahu Mee - Vegan World
</b></br></br>
This vegan dish comes in two version, dry or soup. The dry version has a small bowl of soup to compliment the noodle. For the foodist, no dish is considered complete if the soup is not up to the standard expectation. The highlight of Pong Tahu Mee, therefore is in the soup preparation. The taste is sweet and excellent. The stock is rich and delicious. The cook has
put much thought into the details. As you savour the soup remember to look for the faux onion rings. Highly realistic texture that reminds us of the tasty fried onion rings used to garnish this dish. There is of course no onion or garlic used. This fact should make it attractive a lot of Buddhists clients, who by tradition, prefer meals without the onion and garlic flavours.

Another way to eat is to order the Pong Tahu Soup itself. With an extra bowl of rice, there is more soup to dig in and to fulfill the vegan's appetite. Price of each dish range from $2.50 to $3.50 and it is certainly cheap and affordable.

The soup is Cream of Mushroom with Bread Bowl. We love the presentation, and the bread bowl is actually quite big with a bread cover. It is quite filling by the time you finish it..

</br></br></br>
This dish reminds us of the famous Loving Hut satay, the same BBQ flavor and excellent texture. Many years ago, Loving Hut @ Suntec City was the first restaurant to introduce vegan satay to the Singapore food scene. We like the slippery vegan butter flavored rice too !
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8309816945/" title="SLH13-6 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8504/8309816945_398bfee30a_c.jpg" width="400" alt="SLH13-6"></a>

</br></br></br>
We are on a different timeline now. Our probable future of catastrophe has been averted.
</br></br>
All this is possible because of the will of the World Saviour Incarnate (WSI). If not for the great compassion of the WSI,
the Earth would be toast by now. We would have become disembodied entities.
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8310021448/" title="SDIM0135-1 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8355/8310021448_feaaac5d4c_c.jpg" width="400" alt="SDIM0135-1"></a>
</br></br></br>
For just one reason alone, for the mercy and grace of the WSI, the Earth was spared..
Every day we have now, we live in gratitude for the herculean efforts of WSI and the band of Buddhas and Bodhisatvas of the ten directions together with
their negotiation with the Chief Architect, the matrix was allowed to continue for us to enjoy, for our benefit, for our spiritual
growth.

</br></br></br>
So we celebrate Christmas by going to Loving Hut at Suntec, Singapore. There is no better place to celebrate.
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8308969403/" title="SDIM0120-1 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8221/8308969403_b198a77ca7_c.jpg" width="400" alt="SDIM0120-1"></a>
</br></br></br>
There was a large crowd of vegan supporters as the restaurant tables were quickly filled up.
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8310021610/" title="SDIM0128-1 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8356/8310021610_a62db37cf9_c.jpg" width="400" alt="SDIM0128-1"></a>
</br></br></br>
We ordered the Spring Chunk and Vegan Lasagna set.
The starter entree is actually the most interesting dish in the cold December night.
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8308971297/" title="SDIM0146-1 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8083/8308971297_bc5b0aa97d_c.jpg" width="400" alt="SDIM0146-1"></a>
</br></br></br>
It has an incredible buttery sensation wrapped on a crispy crepe-like pastry. Very delicate and the taste is absolutely exquisite. This is filled with C'food Nantua with Masculine Salad and Balsamic Dressing. Biting into the C'food the texture is both delightful and sensational. We have lingering memories of this gourmet treat long afterwards on the way home.
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8310021334/" title="SDIM0136-1 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8217/8310021334_2049da7e10_c.jpg" width="400" alt="SDIM0136-1"></a>
</br></br></br>
Next comes the soup.. We love the thick texture. Thick soup has been our favorite rather than the slurpy Chinese version. This soup has a rich flavour with very faint hint of Chestnut and Carrot and comes with a non-garlic stick which we have indicated was our preference.</br></br>
The main course of Spring Chunk has a smoked BBQ sauce that is interesting and novel. And the vegan lasagna is decidedly heavenly.
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8308971165/" title="SDIM0174-1 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8360/8308971165_00c493970c_c.jpg" width="400" alt="SDIM0174-1"></a>
</br></br></br>
For dessert we have a slice of vegan orange cake which is nice, and the yogurt-like Panna Cotta wraps up the sweet taste for the night.

Pio Soup (Save the Fish Species)<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8254332750/" title="H5-PO-2 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8224/8254332750_ec602c31d1_c.jpg" width="400" alt="H5-PO-2"></a>
</br></br></br>
<b color=#552FAC>Save the Fish Species in our Oceans and Rivers</b>
</br></br>
No, it is not R2-D2 the robot, not C3-PO also. We are talking about H5Pio, aka colloquially He Pio soup (Save the Fish Beings on Earth). Before we start talking about the etymology and eschatology of the H5Pio, we want to orient readers to the physical location we are talking about. This post is to introduce you to the latest and greatest vegan outlet in Singapore, one of the many and unending waves of vegan outlets which we hope to see sprouting out all over the island and all over the universe..
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8254332700/" title="H5-PO-1 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8209/8254332700_e98d4dbdff_c.jpg" width="400" alt="H5-PO-1"></a>
</br></br></br>
We are taking our readers to the Eunos MRT station on the East West MRT line. This part of the island is traditionally inhabited by our Malay brothers who are a very friendly and family-oriented people. Just outside of the MRT gates as you exit to your left, you will encounter a row of hawker center at Block 4, and just behind that is block 7 which is the location of the latest branch of the Vegetarian Era.
</br></br></br>
A few meters away, and you will see the bus stop directly opposite VeganBurg, reputed to be one of the first pure vegan burger outlets in the whole world.. a national treasure of Singapore.
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8253288417/" title="H5-PO-3 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8224/8253288417_0db9659a68_c.jpg" width="400" alt="H5-PO-3"></a>
</br></br></br>
<b color=#5511AC>Etymology</b></br>
A few words on etymology. The reason why vegans do not directly refer to the vernacular name of the animal species is simple. They have been exploited relentlessly and hunted to extinction. To mention the vernacular species names is an insult to the animal's dignity and further it feeds on the programmed negative predator complex of homo sapiens.
</br></br>
What is in the name ? What is H5-PO ? Well, it is up to the reader to interpret but we think of it as Healthy 5 spices-Pure Ocean Soup.
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8254361724/" title="H5-PO-4 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8206/8254361724_c6823abe7f_c.jpg" width="400" alt="H5-PO-4"></a>
</br></br></br>
<b color=#5511AC>Eschatology</b></br>
Here is an example of the extreme cruelty and murder that occurs on a daily basis without realizing the great harm that man has imposed on the weak and defenceless beings. This particular dish described as "tasty" actually is a part of the gas chamber of the free roaming fish. Now if you can imagine a superior, technologically advanced race of Extra-terrestrial who as a matter of hobby delight in fishing out homo sapiens from their homes and cook a culinary delight out of his ripped off lungs... then that is exactly how the fish will feel, helpless and in dispair of the impending death after its gas chamber is being ripped off by human fishing activities.
</br></br>
Without the gas chamber, the fish will lose its balance and overturn itself belly up. It will not be able to survive long and will die in pain and horror.
</br></br>
Amongst the injuries sustained by the ocean beings include acute decompression illness, internal hemorrhage, hernia and laceration. Finally after what seemed like eternal moments of endless suffering, pain and duress, the death comes swiftly and its cause is pronounced as "asphyxia due to lesion beyond moiety and multiple system failure".
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8253306497/" title="H5-PO-5 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8339/8253306497_8b00aed3bc_c.jpg" width="400" alt="H5-PO-5"></a>
</br></br></br>
Enough of the madness of this unkind world. People should start realizing that discoveries in nuclear physics already affirmed the interconnectedness of all beings in the universe. We are all one.
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8253306293/" title="H5-PO-7 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8071/8253306293_8796e9f332_c.jpg" width="400" alt="H5-PO-7"></a>
</br></br></br>
If we are all one, any part of suffering of any "lesser" beings will have an effect on us just as well. The quantum physicists called this the quantum entanglement, which is the fact that an atom or proton can and will affect its counterpart no matter how far away the pair is separated and information exchange takes place beyond the speed of light.
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8253306169/" title="H5-PO-8 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8202/8253306169_7d649d1872_c.jpg" width="400" alt="H5-PO-8"></a>
</br></br></br>
As vegans, we happily munch on the H5-Pio soup and realize that the texture and taste is good for the ethical enjoyment as no real fish has been hurt in the process. Oh my God, the taste is so good at this stall !

</br></br></br>
Great News ! The Vegetarian Era vegan shop had a new opening at Eunos Block 7 yesterday !
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8220353966/" title="VE @ E 2 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8197/8220353966_68fd3b1fc9_c.jpg" width="400" alt="VE @ E 2"></a>
</br></br></br>
It is located next to the Eunos MRT just behind the bus stop along Jalan Eunos at Block 7.
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8220353738/" title="VE @ E 3 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8200/8220353738_d5488883f3_c.jpg" width="400" alt="VE @ E 3"></a>
</br></br></br>
This is directly opposite Vegan Burger which is just across the road ! So now there are two vegan outlets within walking distance from Eunos MRT ! Yeah !! Eunos is becoming a vegan heaven ... heh heh !
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8219272357/" title="VE @ E 4 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8200/8219272357_1ebaa28694_c.jpg" width="400" alt="VE @ E 4"></a>
</br></br></br>
Take a look at the menu board... There are 19 dishes to choose from, and these are new dishes not found at the AMK branch or the Hougang Branch. The style here is Nonya cooking with Malaysian ethnic traditional taste.
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8220361460/" title="VE @ E 5 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8207/8220361460_3f635b4a44_c.jpg" width="400" alt="VE @ E 5"></a>
</br></br></br>
We get to try the Melacca laksa here as well, but eating this makes me miss the Ang Mo Kio branch with the special Hericium laksa. H-laksa is certainly unique, but here at Eunos, the Nonya laksa is no slouch either.
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8219282391/" title="VE @ E 6 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8487/8219282391_ef9696c43b_c.jpg" width="400" alt="VE @ E 6"></a>
</br></br></br>
Upon recommendation by the chief cook, we also tried the Pong Tahu Mee (dry). You need to remember to savor the soup slowly... and if you are new vegan, you will remember the taste which the ocean crustaceans will thank you for sparing their lives.
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8219282317/" title="VE @ E 7 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8344/8219282317_943ce11ded_c.jpg" width="400" alt="VE @ E 7"></a>
</br></br></br>
Pong Tahu Mee comes in soup version as well, and we will definitely feature more of this dish in future when we come back for another meal, and hopefully in better lighting condition to bring you more exciting photos of the Vegetarian Era specialty.
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8220363422/" title="VE @ @ 8 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8485/8220363422_593c9b0018_c.jpg" width="400" alt="VE @ @ 8"></a>
</br></br></br>
There are too many dishes to report but we are rushing out this good news, because the <a href="http://www.hungryangmo.com" target="_new">Hungry Ang Mo </a>is also spotted at the opening day and he has threatened to be the first to post this news, and we have to beat him !! Hah Hah !

Long time ago in the sixties and seventies, there is a special shop in the Tanjong Pagar Area selling a kind of deep fried pancake sprinkled with generous amount of peanut toppings and stuffed with vegetable fillings.
It used to be our family favorite treat, and my father used to make the long journey to Tanjong Pagar and bought these
back to us. He traveled by taxi and it was expensive to travel by taxi in those days.
</br></br></br>
We often associate food with fond memories of our past and call it culture or tradition. And we make the mistake to defend our culture and tradition at
all cost, even to the extent of taking up arms against our fellow human beings if anyone dared to challenge our concept of food. It is
sacrosanct. If you try to change my food, it is like a personal insult, a revenge must be exacted and every force will be
employed to defend our custom and culture.
</br></br></br>
This kind of thinking is utter foolishness..
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8196656310/" title="XingHua2 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8059/8196656310_57c19ab2e8_c.jpg" width="400" alt="XingHua2"></a>
</br></br></br>
At The Bencoolen Building, behind Singapore's famous Bugis Street there is a shop selling this kind of old-school pancake. The
name of the shop is called Xing Hua Vegetarian. This is of course, a veganized version of the pancake with vegetable fillings and
no animal contents. I have fond memories of this shop because it was introduced to me by an old friend of mine, who
shared common ancestry with me.
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8196656168/" title="XingHua3 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8478/8196656168_2e5b8fb855_c.jpg" width="400" alt="XingHua3"></a>
</br></br></br>
This friend became a vegetarian when he was a teenager many years before, and so he is a very long time vegetarian and
a strong and devout Buddhist. His Buddhist group are staunch supporters of vegetarianism and they opened three vegetarian grocery outlets
in various locations, a bakery and a vegetarian restaurant at Aljunied MRT. His favorite food at Heng Hua is the Mixed Vegetable Soup, a vegan version of the
dish that used to involve the unimaginable cruelty of killing and taking the ocean being's dorsal fin. This dish is not
available at this shop now, because it has been newly renovated and went up-market in price. It can still be found in the branch
shop nearby at the Fortune Center, which is a stone's throw from the main shop.
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8195562439/" title="XingHua4 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8070/8195562439_eacbaa9f42_c.jpg" width="400" alt="XingHua4"></a>
</br></br></br>
One day I became curious about my friend's Buddhism. He is a scholarly man, well-educated with an MBA, and very sincere and
pious person. I asked him to describe his religion to enlighten me. He told me that Buddha's life is well documented in a
book, a very thick book which I presumed is the Bible of the school of Buddhism he believed in. Every detail about the Buddha
is recorded there, in a few hundred pages. And so, the practice of his Buddhism begins by first studying the contents of the book,
and that by following the foot steps of the Buddha very very closely, one can then achieve Nirvana, because Gautama Buddha has
demonstrated in His life that it is possible to become fully enlightened and attain Nirvana while living in Samsara.
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8196655820/" title="XingHua5 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8065/8196655820_bbd0ea72ff_c.jpg" width="400" alt="XingHua5"></a>
</br></br></br>
It occurred to me slowly, while he was describing his practice that this is a similar concept to the book which I have read in my youth called
the "Imitation of Christ" written by Thomas à Kempis (c. 1380-1471). The idea in this book is to attempt to imitate Jesus Christ so as to achieve Christ Consciousness. This is
very similar to my friend's Buddhist doctrine. Read about the Buddha's life, follow His outer form very closely and carefully, not missing any
details of His habits, His thinking, His philosophy, His outlook, and then one can hope to achieve Enlightenment, just like the Buddha did.
This approach is attempting to achieve inner spiritual enlightenment by following outer manifestations of form.
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8196670574/" title="XingHua5 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8490/8196670574_8ee1d2b10e_c.jpg" width="400" alt="XingHua5"></a>
</br></br></br>
I asked more questions and said that ok, you start out with reading the Buddhist Bible, it is a very thick book, maybe five hundred pages or more,
At the rate of reading one section every week, how long does it take to finish reading the Bible ? He answered perhaps three to four years.
My curious mind asked again, what happened next after reading the Bible for three or four years. To my utter surprise he replied that the next
thing to do is to re-read the whole Buddhist Bible from the beginning again. Oh My God, I thought. How many rounds of reading is considered sufficient,
and at which time do they start on the actual practice of meditation. Well it seemed from his answers that one life time alone is not considered
long enough to fully understand the Bible, and therefore one does not start practising until the Bible is completely absorbed, mentally, intellectually.
</br></br></br>
For a few days I puzzled over his answers. Apparently his school does not start any form of spiritual practice or meditation until the Bible can be fully
understood. I was shocked that the process can take many life times and I wondered is it sixteen life time that is needed, or sixteen thousand or sixteen
million life times ? When can one see the light at the end of the tunnel ?
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8196670444/" title="XingHua7 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8067/8196670444_7fd98c375c_c.jpg" width="400" alt="XingHua7"></a>
</br></br></br>
Then one day, I have an immediate enlightenment of sorts... Oh My God, I realized that my friend belong to the Gradual Awakening School 渐悟!!
</br></br></br>
The well known proponent of the Gradual School was the Buddhist monk called Shen Siu神秀, who studied under the enlightened Master, the Fifth Patriarch of Zen, Hong Ren.
One day an illiterate lay person called Hui Neng 六祖慧能wanted to study Buddhism with Hong Ren. The followers of Shen Siu looked down on him with disdain,
thinking what does a barbaric Southerner know about enlightenment ? He will never achieve enlightenment !
</br></br></br>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8195576381/" title="XingHua8 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8063/8195576381_1a66ca7b7d_c.jpg" width="400" alt="XingHua8"></a>
</br></br></br>
The story goes that one day the Fifth Zen Patriarch Hong Ren decided to give Initiation. He wanted to find out which one of his disciples is worthy of initiation
and so He held a poetry competition.
</br></br></br>
Shen Siu responded with his poetry written on the wall of the temple. The body is the Bodhi tree. Everyone has a mirror. The mirror gets dirty from time to time and you have to clean

When Hui Neng heard about this poem, of course he was illiterate and someone had to read the poetry to Him, Hui Neng immediately knew the level of spiritual consciousness
indicated by the poetry was very low. He responded with his famous reply on the wall.
</br></br></br>
Hui Neng said the Boddhi tree was never a tree. There is no mirror. How can the soul be tainted if everything is a Big Void ?

Shen Siu's poetry shows that His consciousness is still anchored in Samsara.
</br></br></br>
Hui Neng's poetry shows that He understood the illusory nature of the Holographic Projection of Artificial Reality aka the Quantum Matrix (as in the famous
Matrix triology popularized in the movie).

The choice of who deserved Initiation was obvious to Fifth Zen Patriarch Hong Ren五祖弘忍.
</br></br></br>
In the middle of the night Hong Ren summoned Hui Neng to His private chambers and gave Hui Neng the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

</br></br></br>
Filled with the Holy Ghost, Hong Ren passed to Hui Neng his begging bowl and monk's robe. Your life is in grave danger now, said Hong Ren, take these
as the symbol of having being initiated by me, and flee to the South where there is safety for you.

</br></br></br>
The next day, the followers of Shen Siu was angry that the transmission of the Lamp took place under their nose in secrecy. They vowed to kill Hui Neng,
but of course by that time, Hui Neng had already escaped. Hui Neng became the Sixth Patriarch of the Immediate Enlightenment school顿悟.
</br></br></br>
Shen Siu, the founder of northern Gradual Awakening School did not take possession of Saint Peter's Key to the Kingdom of Heaven (Nirvana). It was Hui Neng, who took possession of St. Peter's Key which was transmitted directly to Hirm from Hong Ren.
</br></br>
When Empress Wu heard of the fame of Shen Siu, she invited him to join the Court as the Chief Priest; Shen Siu informed Empress Wu, in all humility,
that he defers to Hui Neng as the One, whose enlightenment was even greater than himself, ...
</br></br></br>
The One, holder of St. Peter's Key.
</br></br>
The One, heir of 5th Zen Patriarch Hong Ren.
</br></br>
The One, Sixth Grand Patriarch of Zen, the Living Master (638-713) of the world, the Light of the World, World Saviour, The Redeemer of Karmic Sinners.
</br></br>
The One, Perfect Enlightened Master of Immediate Enlightenment School, tracing Hiers lineage back to the First Grand Master of Immediate Enlightenment,
Bodhidharma, who Hirmself is the 28th Patriarch tracing Hiers lineage back to Mahakashyapa, one of the ten Chief Disciples of Gautama Buddha.
</br></br>
The One, Deliverer of sentient beings from Bondage and liberation from 3 Worlds, and Comforter-to-come (has come).
</br></br>
The One, and Only Begotten Son of God (circa 638-713)
</br></br>
The One, World Saviour Incarnate (638-713) whose shoe lace I am not fit to untie..
</br></br></br>
Without the Amazing Grace and Boundless Mercy of God, it is very difficult for anyone to believe in the possibility of immediate enlightenment in this life.
Until one meet a living Master of Perfect Enlightenment, then one will realize that Immediate Enlightenment is real and possible.

The Irish tap dancing session was very beautifully done and elegantly presented the country's music very well. Another memorable performance was when three singers with powerful voices representing the Arab and middle east world entered the stage, and two whirling dervishes adorned both ends of the stage in an exotic, intoxicated dance to God, a most representative moment of the sufi mysticism. All artists wore very beautiful costumes evocative of the world's culture and the vocals of sopranos and tenor alike adorned the wonderful night. The same location at the 6,500 seat Shrine Auditorium LA, in December 1998 where Supreme Master Ching Hai's lyrics was first put to music by the renowned composer Mr. Bill Conti at the "One World of Peace Through Music" charity event now played host to the second ever musical called Loving the Silent Tears. At the end of the 4 hour long show, three charitable organizations dealing with welfare for animals received contributions of a hundred thousand dollars each.
<br/><br/><br/>
In this joyous occasion, Supreme Master Ching Hai also presented an important video message to the world, saying we have more than ten thousand years of continued existence of our precious planet to look forward to.. and our most heart-felt gratitude to the most High Divinity for saving our Earth.

Having personally experienced the powerful images that the now extinct Kodak DCS Pro 14n camera was capable of producing, I became convinced that the
Foveon camera is worthy of further investigation. Recently I decided that market prices are just about right for the price of a premium APS-C compact camera that the
Fveon cost at around US$ 1k and went ahead to purchase one. The blow of the pricy premium enthusiast model was soften somewhat by the
vendor giving away a "free" Sigma flash and two included camera batteries, which of course have already been factored into the marketing price. This blog is a
first impression of the Sigma DP2 merrill if it may be helpful for someone thinking of buying this camera.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8125485884/" title="Sigma DP2m with free flash by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img alt="Sigma DP2m with free flash" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8055/8125485884_c6e59797a8_c.jpg" width="420" /></a>
<br />
<br />
Right out of the box, the signs of cost savings become apparent. No software CD, you get to download it from the internet yourself and no printed manual either. I made the
mistake to download Sigma Photo Pro 4.2 which does not recognize the X3F RAW files, but installing the latest 5.3.2 version solved this problem.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8125540338/" title="Sigma DP2 merrill by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8467/8125540338_6c823b3615_c.jpg" width="420" alt="Sigma DP2 merrill"></a>
<br />
<br />
<br />
The first few seconds upon seeing this camera right out of the box was what an ugly black box it looked like. But when it is placed on the
hands, the experience quickly turned positive. It has a metallic feel to it and appeared to be solidly built, of a quality better than
the dying breeds of cheap plastic compacts. For people with big hands, there is no problem here as the rectangular box design has plenty of area for the fingers to
grip.The buttons and dials feel solid enough and provide good tactile feedback in line with other premium compact models. I like the embedded pinch style lens cap, easy
to take on and off the fixed camera lens. There are just enough buttons and dials to satisfy the enthusiast photographer and
their functions are easy to understand without much confusion. I liked the Quick set button which in effect transformed the
physical four direction button into a virtual eight way button. It is Sigma's version of the ubiquitous Fn or function button commonly found in some
enthusiast models. The four way button is each individually programmable, and also very logical so I find there is no need to change the assignment of the buttons.
Clockwise from the up arrow direction, the first set of the QS button control iso sensitivity, AE metering mode, drive mode followed by flash mode. I find these
are exactly the kind of features I would be accessing frequently just before taking a photo, so it is abundantly clear they have put a lot of thought into this
design. The second set of Q menus are White Balance, Image Size, Color Mode and Image Quality. I find that these features are less frequently used and therefore
logical to group them in a set, which again indicates the designer is a hands-on photographer not just a techno wizard.
The Q button is so useful that I mistakenly pressed the menu button instead and wished that the button locations for Quick Set and menu to be switched, making it easier
to access the Q-menu after pressing the four way button. However since the menu button also function as a cancel button, its prime location in close
proximity to the four way button is also a logical and efficient design choice. It just need some time to get used to the camera placement of buttons.
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8125532345/" title="Sigma DP2m with EF-140 DG Flash by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8328/8125532345_8deec2e7c4_c.jpg" width="420" alt="Sigma DP2m with EF-140 DG Flash"></a>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Without the physical QS button which transforms the four way button into virtual eight way buttons, accessing
frequently used camera functions requires diving deeper into the menu structures, meaning more presses of the buttons
and command dial required. The usefulness of the QS button to me cannot be over-stated.
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8125572425/" title="Changi City by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8469/8125572425_2bf7da2269_c.jpg" width="420" alt="Changi City"></a>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Another convenience feature of the Sigma DP2 Merrill is the used of 3 custom settings. However unlike the CS functions found in dslrs like the Nikon D7000 and
Canon 7D, there is no dedicated dial for this in the Sigma which makes it less useful. To access the C1 to C3 custom settings require an additional press of the
mode button followed by turning the command dial. However I feel that the feature sets available in the Sigma DP2 merrill not sophisticated enough to make the CS function really useful.
Unlike the DSLR cousins with advanced AF features and incredible feature set combinations which makes the Custom functions really needed, in the case of the Sigma,
its electronic sophistication can be toured in a matter of 10 minutes to 20 minutes top.So the 3 CS settings is a nice bonus from Sigma but not really useful for my needs.
Some people though, may find the CS useful. Here is an example scenario. Set CS1 to high image quality, ISO 100, RAW, AWB etc to get the most image quality out of the camera under
ideal conditions. Set CS2 to low light situation, Flash On, Custom White Balance, Single Frame Shooting, ISO 400 etc. Set CS3 for continuous shooting or self timer or for handling the
camera over to a perfect stranger or fellow tourist to take a self-portrait, in which case set shooting mode to P, JPEG fine, Flash On, Single frame shooting etc. The possible
combination of use is only limited by your imagination..

<br />
<br />
<br />
I like the useful design of magnification in the Manual Focus mode. There are basically two ways to get the magnification window. By half press of the shutter button and
turning the focus ring on the lens, or another surprisingly quick way, just by pressing the OK button. By half pressing the shutter button, the focus ring of the Sigma lens behaves
like a rudimentary i-function lens found on the Samsung mirrorless compact camera series. The ability to change the magnification ratio and inclusion of
distance meter is a nice touch. A 5 minutes tour covers all you need to know about the MF features !
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8125623544/" title="Changi City by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8330/8125623544_67eebf8d06_c.jpg" width="420" alt="Changi City"></a>
<br />
<br />
<br />
While still on the subject of physical handling, about the only major complain I have is the design of the USB/AV cover. When open, the door sticks out in 90 degrees and
the door hinge is uncomfortably close to the USB port, allowing no room for any play of the connecting plastic cable's thickness. The ninety degree opening of the door
is a disaster waiting to happen. Since I don't plan to use the USB connector it doesn't affect me at all, but it is my firm believe that the USB door is designed to break !
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8125626424/" title="Changi City by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8465/8125626424_ddeb232727_c.jpg" width="420" alt="Changi City"></a>
<br />
<br />
<br />
After 10 minutes of fiddling with the menus and finding my way around the camera settings, including powering on and off the camera for a dozen times, there is a
noticeable warmth from the battery heating up. It is not unusual and it can be felt also on my Panasonic GF3 micro Four thirds camera, but subjectively slightly warmer than that.
It doesn't feel quite as warm as a 2700 mAh rechargeable nickel-cadmium battery after a four hour slow charge, and certainly there is no cause for alarm. Thanks to the
thickness of the camera and its wide girth, the heat has more room to dissipate than a smaller sized compact.
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8125618343/" title="A saint's lunch by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8332/8125618343_c476e6511b_c.jpg" width="420" alt="A saint's lunch"></a>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Now on about the battery life. Everything horrible said about the DP2 merrill's battery life or lack of turns out to be true. I have read someone said half jokingly you
need about 6 spare batteries for a day's worth of shooting, and I find that this is not an exaggeration at all ! Here's my
experience. On the first fully charged battery I used on the first day of playing with the DP2 Merrill, I spend a total of about 10 minutes getting familiar with
the menu and feature sets, including a dozen or so times of powering up and down the camera, and I thought I was ready for some shooting test at a lunch appointment with a saint.
His whole life is an endless story of amazing miracles and synchronicity both prior to and after stepping on the path to Sainthood. So in between lunch while chatting
with him I had some photo opportunity of approximately 20 minutes before the battery juice died out and the battery indicator turn red. I shook my head in disbelief.. One fully
charged battery can only take 30 minutes of total use, producing only a miserly 32 X3F RAW files of between 44 MB and 54 MB file sizes... Only 32 exposures !! Oh My God, this is unheard
of battery performance in the digital age, even less than a roll of analog film !!
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8125655506/" title="Vegan meal by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8045/8125655506_93fe30fc23_c.jpg" width="420" alt="Vegan meal"></a>
<br />
<br />
<br />
In retrospect I have already set the camera to take RAW only instead of RAW plus JPEG to save on battery usage, and this doesn't help at all. About the
only other battery wasting setting I have to undo is the 5 second playback display ( instead of default 2 second ) which I doubt would give much impact if any.
I might have to forgo MF usage entirely and the magnified LCD display in the interest of saving battery life. It is a good thing that the camera package comes with 2 original batteries;
some people posted that other brand batteries of similar capacity can be used in the DP2 merrill. (Footnote: It was discovered that the cheap replacement batteries cannot fit within dp2m battery compartment, as the battery door cannot be closed, even though the electronic contacts and voltage are similar.)
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8125653591/" title="Vegan lunch by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8330/8125653591_5ceb9d9ed9_c.jpg" width="420" alt="Vegan lunch"></a>
<br />
<br />
Here's the baseline specs for almost all photos taken in this quick review. Camera mode manual, Flash Off, ISO 100, Center weighted average metering, RAW only (to save battery power), image quality Highest,
Color Space sRGB, Color Mode Standard, picture setting (Contrast, saturation, sharpness) default nil, color adjustment default nil, noise reduction default chroma 0.5 luminance 0.5.
The last three parameters for color adjustment and NR apparently cannot be set in-camera and can only be set in the RAW processing software Sigma Photo Pro.
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8125673217/" title="Dough sticks by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8333/8125673217_2f8881ce11_c.jpg" width="420" alt="Dough sticks"></a>
<br />
<br />
<br />
My initial workflow is just to convert from RAW to 16 bit TIFF using Sigma Photo Pro, then do any further adjustment using my favorite RAW processor. The additional step to get
the 16 bit TIFF is necessary because at this point in time only Sigma Pro can read X3F files. Sigma Photo Pro is an impressive software with a wide array of processing parameters.
Certainly it is possible to produce JPEG directly from this step alone. It is way better than the anaemic SilkyPix from Panasonic or Olympus Viewer 2. It is on par, if not more
usable than Nikon ViewNx, Capture NX or Canon's DPP.
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8125723014/" title="Dough Culture @ Changi City by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8466/8125723014_89374e9f7c_c.jpg" width="420" alt="Dough Culture @ Changi City"></a>
<br />
<br />
<br />
In Sigma Pro, there are three processing options, X3F default, Auto and Custom. Since I am not contemplating using the Sigma RAW processing at this point, I only alternate
between using X3F and Auto. Auto tends to produce a more contrasty image with a loss of some brightness, though this is image dependent..
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8125749066/" title="Dough Culture @ Changi City by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8325/8125749066_9b5619c6b5_c.jpg" width="420" alt="Dough Culture @ Changi City"></a>
<br />
<br />
<br />
As a result of my workflow trying to extract the most image quality from the 46 MB X3F files at the start of RAW processing, it came out as a 16 bit TIFF file with a gigantic 86.5 MB !
The file size ballooned to almost twice its RAW size !! Lots of Megapixels to keep your quad-core CPU busy for a couple of seconds at least ... and in case anyone is thinking of
spending three times the money to buy the Nikon D800E, why not go for this cheaper compact that has the AA filter removed and gives gorgeous colors ?
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8125761610/" title="Vegan Fillet by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8466/8125761610_c99d5939c7_c.jpg" width="420" alt="Vegan Fillet"></a>
<br />
<br />
<br />
The first thing which impressed me when working on the RAW processor Photivo, is the fact that the Sigma RAW files are incredibly sharp. Sharpness starts to creep in at 75% viewing magnification and
becomes increasingly apparent as it reach 100% and beyond. It is the kind of sharpness that is often associated with expensive prime macro lenses for the DSLR. Details such as minute hair can be seen,
whether this is a result of Sigma 2.8 lens or the AA filter or lack of, is anyone's guess. But it does mean that technique is important, you can't blame the equipment for an unsharp photo, it is
as good as it gets, in fact, there may be situations when turning down the sharpness a touch may be required for certain images.
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8125750395/" title="vegan fritters by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8468/8125750395_e9bbf2ba71_c.jpg" width="420" alt="vegan fritters"></a>
<br />
<br />
<br />
It seems that saving in 16-bit uncompressed TIFF gives the advantage of about 2 f-stops headroom, so you can pull out the shadows and highlights comfortably. If you need more leg room, you can always go back to Sigma Photo Pro and work in there..
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8125762081/" title="tempura soba by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8190/8125762081_ecaa5e7bbe_c.jpg" width="420" alt="tempura soba"></a>
<br />
<br />
<br />
IF Sigma can come up with a FX dslr at competitive prices it will be sure to outsell all the major brands out there, but knowing how slow the Sigma works it will
be the day when everyone on earth turns vegan ;-)
<br />
<br />

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8125769519/" title="tempura soba by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8056/8125769519_f0e3d5caba_c.jpg" width="420" alt="tempura soba"></a>
<br />
<br />
<br />
So, in summary, this is the camera for:<br />
1 - people who cared about quality colors.<br />
2 - subject you are shooting is stationary.<br />
3 - the lights are good..<br />
4 - you like to shoot 7-9 shots continuously then take a cup of coffee.<br />
5 - landsacpe, still life, portrait<br />
6 - you enjoy taking 5 spare batteries in your pocket.
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8125798426/" title="vegan fritter by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8332/8125798426_bf33463752_c.jpg" width="420" alt="vegan fritter"></a>
<br />
<br />
<br />
This is not the camera for you<br />
1 - if your subject is always in motion<br />
2 - low light and high iso shooting<br />
3 - you are not an available light shooter<br />
4 - you are a snapaholic with zero patience.<br />
5 - you have a strong aversion to processing RAW files.
<br />

Some kind soul on dpreview.com passed me this valuable tip: "To save on battery life, set the camera to 30 second auto shutdown. The default is 5 minutes. It will make a huge difference. Also, turn off auto review.". Thanks to villebon !

</div>
Looking back, one of the earliest offering of vegan G Rice could possibly be the Vegetarian Era stall a few years ago when it first started at West Point Plaza @ Pasir Ris...
<br />
This is the G Rice that is commonly found in Singapore, Malaysia food scene but the requirement to be vegan means that margarine or butter cannot be used to flavour the rice which is the standard practise in all vegetarian stalls for decades.
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/5759723562/" title="XZ-1 wireless flash 1 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img alt="XZ-1 wireless flash 1" height="375" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3646/5759723562_5cb737fb5a.jpg" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
So we can definitely say that it is easy to make flavourful G Rice if the traditional ingredients like Planta or margarine is used in the cooking, in addition to other conditments like coconut juice.
<br />
Noticed that the vegan G Rice appeared in roasted version, without the use of margarine at all, using instead condiments such as pandan leave and vegetable oil for flavouring.
<br />
Much more rare, and harder to find, is the White Cut version of the vegan G Rice, which once again was poineered by the Vegetarian Era stall in the West Point Plaza days... <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/5796488048/" title="X-Sync 1 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img alt="X-Sync 1" height="375" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2430/5796488048_b448370d0a.jpg" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
It's not easy to pull off this cooking feat. Most vegetarian stall owners who cooked the traditional way would not be able to produce
a vegan version without doing some research on cooking techniques..
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/5795930183/" title="X-Sync 2 by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img alt="X-Sync 2" height="375" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2036/5795930183_7f1f221a69.jpg" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
Let's take another look at the white cut G rice which we have said before is rather rare in the vegetarian food scene. In order to have a lovely product such as this, not only must the ingredients itself be vegan, the process of cooking should not involve any non-vegan products as well... Only such strict requirements will meet the expectations of the pure vegan Saints who are out looking for a good meal.
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/5546310300/" title="Vegan Chicken Rice by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5052/5546310300_9c1dc34851.jpg" width="450" height="333" alt="Vegan Chicken Rice"></a>
<br />
<br />
In the vegetarian Era cooking, the white cut G Rice was excellent. The white protein has texture and bite, and more importantly the rice flavour is authentic.
<br /><br />
Which bring us back to the latest inarnation of the Vegetarian Era stall, now located at Block 122 @ Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3..
<br />
Their latest version is back to the Roasted G Rice, though one would hope that sometime in th'e future they could bring out the nostalgic White Cut version as well...

On the first weekend of the opening of the vegan shop at Hougang 805, 5 Saints decided to gather together for a food sampling dinner session. We took the opportunity to reminise on the past year when four saints from the table were touring the US on the first ever musical the Real Love, featuring Supreme Master Ching Hai's awesome poems. Last year, the venue was at Pasadena Auditorium. This year, two saints from the table will be able to take the 12 hours long haul flight to LA to attend the upcoming second musical "Loving the Silent Tears" at Shrine Auditorium LA. One of them may even get a small role to represent the culture of the local community !<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8038669099/" title="Iron Rice Bowl by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img alt="Iron Rice Bowl" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8032/8038669099_9366181c1c_c.jpg" width="400" /></a>
Two of us were early for the date so we proceeded to order the Iron Rice Bowl.This is the $4 rice set featuring the delicious and tasty sun-dried vegan salted bits served in a hot iron bowl..<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8038669195/" title="Unforgetable Lor Mee by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img alt="Unforgetable Lor Mee" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8171/8038669195_9ef8380e64_c.jpg" width="400" /></a>
<br />
<br />
The next dish we ordered was the Unforgettable Lor Mee as we have heard that it's sauce is especially nice. While we were happily chatting away, another saint and her spouse appeared to join us and they ordered the Kway Teow Soup..<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8038673016/" title="Hainanese Kway Teow Soup by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img alt="Hainanese Kway Teow Soup" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8169/8038673016_b38a1680a9_c.jpg" width="400" /></a>
<br />
<br />
She was a vegan foodist and find the Kway Teow Soup was very tasty... 5 Stars for the Vegetarian Era cook ! Her spouse is also a foodist and ordered the famous Hainanese Hericium Noodle.. we will call it the HH noodle for short.
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8038673564/" title="Hainanese Noodle by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img alt="Hainanese Noodle" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8177/8038673564_1639265079_c.jpg" width="400" /></a>
<br />
<br />
Very soon the samll table was getting crowded as two saint pairs showed up and we moved to another bigger table . All of us have been following the interesting development of the H.H. noodle since it first appeared on the East part of Singapore, so they all wanted to know how it taste like in this new location at Hougang..<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32783140@N03/8038673158/" title="Hainanese Noodle by luckylucky102, on Flickr"><img alt="Hainanese Noodle" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8451/8038673158_61ed0b36db_c.jpg" width="400" /></a>
<br />
<br />
Traditionally, the H-noodle is served in the white thick rice noodle version, similar to the one used in making Laksa. Just for fun, we ordered a yellow-noodle version of the H-noodle and the cook is happy to oblige..<br />
<br />
We talked about happy events in the last year when we were touring LA just before the musical and sampled many vegan dishes all around town. This year the event Loving the Silent Tears promised to be even bigger than last year in terms of cast number and celebrities involved. We were very envious of the lucky saints who are flying there and wished them an enjoyable and memorial musical of the year 2012 !<br />

They were using the vegan shop as background for the scene in the channel 8 drama soon to be shown.. We were joined at the table by Mr. Henry Wang chief cook of the Vegetarian Era vegan chain of shops. The future saint ordered another bowl of Chai Por noodles with herbal soup while we were watching the filming going on around us. It seems to be only 5 minutes worth of film and yet it took dozens of men close to 3 hours to complete it!!

I find the name humorous and imaginative.It is a throw back to the days when job security is the norm. In current times, such comfort has all but evaporated.<br />
The bowl is real iron, looks nice too. The specialty of this dish is the salted bits, which were sun dried and imported from our neighbouring country, hence it is pretty expensive.<br />

These are the fortunate ones serving their time here before going back to the Godhead in heaven.<br />
<br />
Perfect Living Master = Satguru = Messiah = Prophet = Shepherd = Son of God (the second Godhead in the Holy Trinity)<br />
<br />
Attributes of a Perfect Living Master.<br />
<br />
1) He or She must be alive. Only a living Master can give the student the baptism of the Holy Spirit (initiation).<br />
<br />
2) Baptism of the Holy Spirit (initiation) as given by the Perfect Living Master, is a necessary requirement for salvation (liberation).<br />
<br />
The student of the Perfect Living Master enters into the Golden Age. For them, the Kingdom has come.<br />
Every day is a day lived in joyous celebration of the unconditional love of the Master.<br />
<br />
A typical Prayer of the Unsaved goes like this:<br />
<br />
"Our Unseen Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy Name.<br />
In this Tumultous Age of Kali Yuga, Give us our daily Bread.<br />
<br />
I have no idea what is Thy plan for My Salvation.<br />
I can see only the pain of my daily existence.<br />
<br />
Give me riches and abundance that I may glorify the bounty of God.<br />
<br />
Give me an Iron Rice Bowl that I may subsist from breakfast to dinner,<br />
from one house to another, from one bicycle to a car.<br />
<br />
O God, This I asked in the Name of Me, My Spouse and My Children.<br />
Amen."<br />
<br />
A typical prayer for the marked sheep goes like this :<br />
<br />
"Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy Name.<br />
Forgive me my daily sins (karma).<br />
<br />
Give me the strength to lead a righteous life.<br />
<br />
I have seen the 4 physical sufferings of the world and experienced<br />
the 4 mental suffereings.<br />
<br />
I am sick of the world of the senses.<br />
I am tired of samsara and I want to go back to God's homeland.<br />
<br />
Guide me to a Perfect Living Master that I may receive the initiation of the Holy Ghost from Him or Her.<br />
<br />
For Thine is the Kingdom, the Glory and the Power. Amen." <br />
<br />

Not having taking photos for a long while, I decided this is a good time to set up for a simple desktop product shoot. So with a softbox on the right and a large reflector providing lighting on the left, this is what we bought..

<br></br>While we're on the topic of vegan products, we might as well feature two more famous American brands..<br></br>

And this is the G-nuggets from Fry's. Though their products are vegetarian, not everything from the Fry's brand is vegan, so watch out for the ingredients when you go vegan shopping !!

Now since Sant Mat contributes two important concepts which are crucial to unravel the mysteries of Calvinism, namely the concept of reincarnation and the law of karma, it is important for people trying to understand the debate of Calvinism to first embrace these two concepts. Since Christians subscribe to Sola Scriptura they would have to find authoritative biblical scriptures proving that these two concepts exist even in the Bible itself. We leave such an intellectual search and exercise as a homework for the many Biblical scholars around, which are a dime a dozen..;-)<br />
<br />
So, to get down to the 5 points of Calvinism, which is easily remembered by the acronym Tulip, we have the first point: T for Total Depravity. Well, what this means is that human nature is so rotten that we are far from God, being covered in sin since birth.<br />
<br />
From the Sant Mat point of view, if you look at the term sin as the "karma" then everything will make sense. So Sant Mat is in agreement with the Total Depravity. We are so covered with "karma" that we become far away from God, and when we were born as an infant even, we came to this world with karma.<br />
<br />
U for Unconditional Election. The Calvinist believe that God choses an elect few for salvation, leaving the rest of humanity to the fate of the unsaved for all eternity.<br />
<br />
This may sound a bit harsh for the rest of the people left out in the cold, not being listed in God's plan of salvation. In fact it made God appears almost cruel. However from the Sant Mat point of view, this is easily understood as the concept of "marked souls" which a Perfect Living Master (PLM) is destined to deliver from the world of illusion (salvation). Sant Mat also embraces the concept of reincarnation, so the PLM is sent down to earth time and time again by God, so those who are unmarked in the lifetime of a particular PLM will have another chance to meet another PLM, and achieve salvation eventually.<br />
<br />
L for Limited Atonement. Calvinist believe that Jesus atonement for the believer's sin is limited instead of universal. This makes perfect sense with the Unconditional Election, thus Jesus saves only the few disciples he had and atoned for their sins. This is the most troubling concept for Armenian Christians.<br />
<br />
From the Sant Mat point of view, there is nothing contradictory here, since a PLM like Jesus is destined to save the marked souls alloted to Him, therefore only those disciples initiated by a PLM when He is alive will attain salvation. Jesus Himself states that as long as He is alive, He is the Light of the World, so that means as long as He is alive, He is the PLM that can lead marked souls to God, and He is the only way to God, as long as He is alive. Once Jesus is dead, He is no longer a PLM, and salvation in the name of Jesus does not apply any more. Another Living Master will have to be sought out by sincere spiritual seekers.<br />
<br />
I for Irresistible Grace. This concept the Calvinist believe that God eventually will succeed in taking in the believers to salvation, and therefore the Grace of God cannot be resisted by believers.<br />
<br />
From the Sant Mat point of view, this concept can be stated very clearly from the point of the spiritual seeker as this "When a student is ready, the PLM will appear".<br />
<br />
P for Perseverance of the Saints. This concept the Calvinist tried to say that God never abandons the saved, elected souls, even if there will be episodes of back sliding Christians, the elected will eventually merged with the God head.<br />
<br />
From Sant Mat point of view, there is no contradiction with Calvinism. Once a PLM initiates a disciple, He will be responsible for him until he reaches the goal of merging with God. A PLM never forsakes His marked souls, always there to guide him.<br />
<br />
